Otrivin Nasal Spray is a decongestant nasal spray containing xylometazoline hydrochloride (about 0.1%, ~140 µg per dose). It helps relieve nasal congestion, stuffiness and difficulty breathing through the nose caused by the common cold, allergic or vasomotor rhinitis and sinusitis. The spray works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, rapidly reducing swelling and mucus production so breathing becomes easier within minutes.
Otrivin Nasal Spray is available as a metered‑dose nasal spray and has a moisturising formula with ingredients such as sorbitol and hypromellose to reduce dryness and irritation of the nasal lining. The effect typically lasts up to 6–8 hours per dose, allowing fewer applications during the day.
It is intended for short‑term use only (usually 3–7 days) to avoid medicamentous rhinitis and rebound nasal congestion. Otrivin Nasal Spray should not be used in severe heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, closed‑angle glaucoma, or with MAO inhibitors and other vasoconstrictive drugs. Consult a doctor before use in children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have chronic nasal or sinus conditions.
